Ingredients

  • 500 grms Squids cleaned and Cut in Rings
  • 1 Nos Onions Finely Chopped
  • Curry Leaves some Leaves
  • 2 Nos Green chillies slit
  • 1 tbsp Red Chilly Powder
  • 2 tbsp Coriander Powder
  • ½ Tbsp Turmeric Powder
  • Salt as per Taste
  • ½ tbsp Black Pepper Powder

  • Remove all excess water from the squids.

  • Now marinate the squids with all dry masalas – Red chilly powder, Coriander Powder, Turmeric and Salt.

  • Mix it well so all the masalas are coated well in the squids, and let it rest for 15 mins

  • After 15 mins – Heat a Tawa; I am using aIron Tawa. You may use the regular tawa or non-stick Tawa if required. Pour in some oil around 5-6 tbsp of oil and let it heat.

  • Once the oil is hot, add the finely chopped onions to the tawa and roast it until golden brown on a low medium flame.

  • Add Fresh Curry leaves and Green chillies with the finely chopped onions and fry them well together.

  • After 4-5 mins of frying the onions – They have turned nice golden brown.

  • Now it’s time to add the marinated squids to the fried onions and give them a nice mix.

  • Fry it on a high flame for 2-3 mins until it starts releasing water

  • Now close it with a lid, Keep it on a low medium flame and let it cook for 10 mins. DO NOT overcook the squids as they turn rubbery soon

  • After 10 mins, open the lid and let all the excess water dry out, keep it on a high flame and dry up the excess water released from squids

  • Dry this on a high flame for 5-6 mins; keep stirring in intervals.
    Then add some black pepper to it; depending on the spice, add the black pepper powder and keep stirring it until it is nicely roasted

  • The very spicy and juicy squid masala fry is ready to be served!!

  • Serve it hot with steamed rice to chapatis.

Use Iron Tawa if possible instead of a Non-Stick fry Pan – Cooking in Iron Tawa has many health benefits
Do not overcook Squids, or else they will turn rubbery
