For many South Indians, there is no snack better than this. While I am not personally a big fan of Medu Vada, my entire family loves it and takes pride in our South Indian heritage.

During our childhood, when we went out shopping for festivities, Dad always took us to a Udipi Hotel. Everyone would order Medu Vada except for me, as I preferred North Indian dishes. Unfortunately, my husband shares the same taste as everyone else.
So its a must to know how to make this delightful and much popular dish and instead make it at home and relish whenever you crave for it. So lets begin and check-out the step by step procedure and ingredients required for this Recipe Medu Vada.

How to make Recipe Medu Vada at home?
Medu Vada Recipe
Equipment
- Mixing Bowl
- Mixer Grinder
- Kadhai or Deep Frying Pan
- Butter Paper or Plastic cover
Ingredients
- 250 grams Urad Dal/Black Gram Dal Soaked in water for 4 hours
- 1 Onion (Medium size) Finely Chopped
- 2 Nos Green Chilies Chopped
- 1 tsp Chopped Ginger
- Curry Leaves Chopped (Optional)
- 1 tsp Crushed Black Pepper
- Salt as per taste
- Oil for Deep Frying

- First of all grind the soaked Urad dal in the mixer jar to a fine paste, use very little water for grinding.Water added should not be more that 2-3 tbsps
- Transfer the batter to a mixing bowl,
- Using your hands or a spatula, mix the batter continuously for 2-3 mins to smoothen it.
- Now to the batter add chopped onions, green chillies, ginger, curry leaves, salt and black pepper powder
- Mix all the ingredients together to form the batter
- Now grease a piece of butter paper, and take a portion of the batter and pat it over the butter paper , use water if required. Make a small hole in betweenP.S – The reason there is a hole in between is to cook well from inside.
- Heat enough Oil in a Kadhai and once it hot, Lower the flame and drop the medu vadas
- Fry them on low medium flame , and keep turning them around to cook well from all sides until golden brownP. S – Do not turn around immediately, Turn over after 45 secs to 1 min
- Fry them for 2-3 mins from all sides and remove them in a paper towel once golden brown
- Medu Vadas are ready and serve it hot with Sambhar and Chutney
