My mom used to make this with dry prawns as well.

How to make prawns masala recipe at home?
Prawns Masala Fry Recipe
Equipment
- Iron Kadhai or Iron Tawa
- Frying Pan
Ingredients
- 2 Nos Onions Chopped
- Curry Leaves some
- 2-3 Nos Green Chillies Chopped
- Coriander Leaves Chopped
- 1 tsp Ginger Garlic Paste
- Salt as per Taste
- 1 tbsp Red Chilly Powder
- ½ tbsp Black Pepper Powder
- ¼ tbsp Fennel Seed (optional) Powder
- ¼ tbsp Turmeric Powder
- Oil for Cooking
Instructions
- Ingredients
- Take a kadhai or frying pan and heat about 3-4 tbsp of Oil
- Once the oil is moderately hot, add the finely chopped onions
- Then add finely chopped green chillies and curry leaves to the onions, Keep this on a low-medium flame and fry them until golden brown
- After frying for about 1 min add some salt to cook the onions faster, Adding salt help in caramelising the onions faster.
- After frying it for another 2-3 mins the onions have turned golden brownNow we can add 1tsp of ginger garlic paste to the fried onions, after adding the ginger garlic paste fry them well so the raw smell goes off
- The ginger garlic paste is roasted well and turned aromatic and now we can add all dry masalas to it – Red chilly powder, Turmeric powder, Fennel seed powder & Black pepper powder to the fried onions
- Fry them well until the raw smell goes off and it turns aromatic
- Now it’s time to add the prawns to this masala
- After adding prawns, keep it on a high flame and stir continuously for a minute, Mix all the masala well so its coated well over the prawns
- Now add about ¼ cup of water to the prawns and on high flame let it boil once
- Once it starts boiling, Add the finely chopped coriander leaves to the prawns
- Mix everything well and keep it on a low medium flame
- Cover it with a lid and keep it on a low flame and cook for 10 mins, DO NOT overcook the prawns or else it will turn rubbery
- After 10 mins, Open the lid and check the prawns. Mix it well and check if the prawns are cooked well
- Keep this on a high flame and drain the excess water and roast the prawns well
- After roasting on a high for 2-3 mins, The Spicy Prawns Masala Fry is ready to be served

Cook in an Iron Tawa or Kadhai if possible
Fennel Seed Powder gives a nice flavour but its optional – you may avoid if you don’t want to add it.
